Two Georgia laws now reach directly into private-sector operations. SB 444 bars health-coverage decisions that rest solely on AI, effective January 1, 2027. SB 540 imposes disclosure, age-verification, and crisis-response duties on chatbot operators, effective July 1, 2027, with no exemption for chatbots embedded in larger platforms. Data center moratorium, tax-exemption, and ratepayer bills stalled in 2026 and return in January. In Washington, DC, a House discussion draft would preempt state AI laws for three years.
